PenTesting Training Information Thread (FAQ)
Hello, CEH Members.
First and foremost, welcome to the PenTesting Training section! This thread's going to give you all an overview on what's to be expected here, how to behave, your privileges and rights, and much more information. I ask that you all read this thread thoroughly before posting.
Posting Abilities/Rights
- In this section (PenTesting Training) only members of the PenTester Team are allowed to create threads. Normal members can reply to threads, yet cannot create threads. Normal members are only to post in the recruitment thread! This section is for PenTester Team members and PenTester Team members only. If you reply to a thread, I'll assume you haven't read and understood these rules - you will be punished accordingly! Only PenTester Trainees and Trainers are allowed to post here. Let's clear all that up. Normal members are permitted to post in the recruitment thread, and the recruitment thread only. You do not have the ability to create threads, and you will be punished for posting in any thread other than the recruitment thread.
- This is a professional section where professional training happens. Everything is to be kept strictly professional. Ranting, flaming, trolling, double-posting, and low quality posting will not be tolerated. PenTester Team members are expected to read their policy and understand it.
How Can I Join The PenTester Team?
- One can join the PenTester Team by posting an application in the recruitment thread located in this section.
- At times, there will be a large waiting list, but there's two ways to improve your chances of being accepted. The first way is to prove yourself worthy by helping out in the Security section. Show us that you're capable of being a dedicated, and helpful member. The second way, and the quickest way, is to donate to the site. By donating $10 to the site, you'll be moved to the front of the waiting list and will most likely be accepted immediately.
What Is Expected of the PenTester Team Members?
- Once you're accepted, it's asked that you read the training policy to learn more about this. But basically, you'll be required to be dedicated and committed to your training. Remember, all teachers are volunteers and are spending their time to help train you. They are not paid.
- PenTester Team members are expected to post with high quality throughout the whole website, not just in the PenTesting Training section. You're the highest class members on this site, so live up to the name.
- Your PenTesting Training is your priority. If you're unable to dedicate to your training, yet are able to post twenty times a day in other sections, you will be removed from the team.
What Do I Need To Know?
- It's asked that you have some knowledge in security and networking and the likes before applying. I say this as some of the material you will have to learn can be quite challenging at times, and isn't recommended for the average computer user.
- You can go about learning this by reading up on threads and tutorials in the Security section. Learning about various exploits, attacks and more will be of a huge help. Learning how to recognize exploits and attacks and how to treat them is important. There's a thread in this section with all you'll need to know, so don't threat.
What is BackTrack?
- BackTrack is a "Live CD" with an Operating System on it. You boot this CD and contained within it is a compilation of dozens of penetration testing tools and software. These tools are used to test your security, find holes and loops, and correct them.
What's So Good About Becoming A PenTester Trainee?
- Becoming a PenTester Team member is a very rewarding and useful trait. Not only will your knowledge of computers and exploits become vastly expanded, but you're also able to provide professional support to those who need it. It's a rewarding feeling, being able to help someone. We all know how frustrating it is to have a problematic computer, site, or company.
What Are The Requirements?
- There's few explicit requirements to join the PenTester Team. You will be required to fill out an application, however.
- You must have at least two hundred posts to join the PenTester Team.
- You must not have a negative reputation to join the PenTester Team.
- Your post quality must be of a high standard.
- You will be reviewed before being accepted into the group.
