Qualities of a "Good Member"/How To Improve Your Image
Qualities of a Good Member

A lot of times, the default of what people look for in a "good member" is their reputation points and their post counts. They look at your profile, which is the "image" of "you", and they make a judgment base from it. Those can be misleading, and to be honest, often are. There are members with a high post count and high reputation points that are not good quality members of the community. There are also members with very low post count and very low reputation points which are among the best the community has to offer.

Please note however: Reputations do matter, they tell the rest of the community what the rest of the community thinks of you. By adjusting your image, and proving yourself "worthy of a conversion from negative rep to positive rep", you can effectively change your image and better yourself as a member. This isn't a spoon fed hand me now thing, it's something that's going to take time, dedication, and hard work and effort.

There are some people who don't really know what it means to be a good quality member and they try their best but darnit, they can't ever seem to cross over the hump and actually get started.

Your Posts MATTER

Whether you've got 10 posts or 1,000, each and every one of them count. They matter, they are what build your image in the community. You can say all you want about yourself, but what you say and do is what really counts.

Character Points
  • Following the rules. The site holds very specific, but very easy to grasp rules. It's simple, don't troll, don't spam, use proper grammar and punctuation, no flaming, etc. etc.
  • Everyone has a bad day. I don't care how "good" you are, you're going to have a bad day and you're probably going to flame someone or break one of the few rules that we have here. Take a deep breath and edit your posts.
  • Be slow to anger. If you are a hot gun and jump at every stupid thing in your path, watch out, because it's probably going to jump back.
  • Think to yourself, "Do I REALLY need to post this? How will it affect my image on the site?"

The Following is a list of EH Rules and Etiquette

EH Forum Rules
1. No spamming.
2. Act like you're older than 16 even if you aren't.
3. No flaming.
4. Don't attempt to infect members with trojans, viruses, or backdoors.
5. No fraudulent activity involving banks, Paypal, identity theft, or credit cards.
6. No posting of personal information not yours. Privacy is to be respected here. This includes any passwords and logins or dumps.
7. Signature images can be no larger than 650x200 pixels and 500k size. Animated gifs should not be annoying.
8. You cannot ask for or offer reputation in posts, signatures, or PM.
9. Phishing discussions are not allowed. This includes tutorials or phishing help.
10. Dump posting, linking, or marketplace offers are not allowed.
11. No adult images.

Etiquette of EH Forums
1. Post in the correct category. Read the forum descriptions if you are confused.
2. Use good grammar. Basically start sentences with a capital and end it with a punctuation.
3. Don't double post. That's when you post one after another instead of editing your existing first post.
4. Don't cross post. That's when you repeat a post in multiple threads or categories.
5. Create relevant subjects for threads. Crap like "OMG" for a subject is immature and asinine.
6. When posting content from another site credit the site, use quotes and link (unless it is a competing forum, which content you shouldn't post) to original content.
7. Be kind to others. How hard is it not to be an jerk?

Other Site Rules
1. No trolling.
2. No short posts like "cool story bro", "lol" or "lmao".
3. Subjects of threads must be sensible to the thread.
4. Flaming is unacceptable.
5. This isn't 4chan so don't treat it as such.
6. No adult images.
7. NO BB code to bypass the character limit (this includes spoilers and quotes).
8. Anyone breaking these rules will be temp banned without warning.

If you're able to do just those things, and be constructive and have a baseline of kindness then you're most certainly falling under the curtain of a good quality member.

Some of the strategies I'm using:
  • Getting more involved. I applied for a few groups, started making a few friends, offered advice, and just reached out to help more people.
  • Posting less. Although posting less most certainly does not change what you've already posted, it does help keep you off the radar a bit.
  • Make better more quality posts in comparison to your previous posts.
  • Have a "Reserved Spirit". In short, take everything into consideration before you post, think of how you can word and write what you want to say and portray, and make sure that what you want to say is on topic and as in-depth and straight-to-the-point. Then read over your post, edit if you need to.
  • Start writing tutorials. Honestly it helps. It makes you more well known, and if they are good tutorials, people will notice them. The good is going to take a long time to overcome the bad you've already damaged your image with, so you're going to need to turn completely around and start rebuilding that image back up to a positive one.

Sometimes People Just Don't Like You

That's true, and it's ok. People are given the right to not like you, and alot of times you'll know it because they'll also -rep you as well. That's alright, that's quite fine, just lay low, and start writing more quality reserved posts and threads.

Some Tid-Bits For Quality Posting
  • Don't write "2short". If you don't have enough to make a "quality post", then extend what you're going to say. It takes two seconds to type what.three.more words? Why be so lazy. Do yourself a favor and get in the habit of writing longer posts Oui
  • Learn how to turn your back. Just because someone flames you doesn't mean that you have to flame them back. Heck, don't even respond. Just use the report button and move on with your life.
  • Use proper punctuation and capital letters. Make sure that your words are spelled correctly and used properly. If you don't speak good English, why not type what you're wanting to say into a translator first and then copy and paste it here?
  • Think "nice". Just do your best to be as kind as possible, it's like customer service really. If you're protecting your image and reputation, then you're going to cater to it. Part of that is being nice to others even when they aren't so nice to you.
  • Don't be afraid to put your foot down when something wrong is going on. If you see flaming and trolling, then report it rightfully. Don't start a flame war about it, take care of it the mature adult way by reporting it. If you can de-escalate the situation then by all means, do so, but the best route is to use the report function and leave it at that.

That's all I've got at the moment. Feel free to add on if you like.
