Why to use BackTrack.
Well I hope my first post on this forum will be of any use to people.
The main reason to use BackTrack for your pen testing is because it has everything already configured for you. No need to do it yourself. Indeed the software that comes with BackTrack can be used in other distributions of Linux as well as well as in Windows (most of it) but why would you go trough all the problems that come with doing this. Especially Metasploit for example. Some of the exploits in Metasploit give you the option to create a reversed shell. For this several programs need to work together. To get them to do this is a complicated task. The great people that created BackTrack have already taken this burden away from you. |

RE: Why to use BackTrack.
Very good first post! And you're right on too. Backtrack has everything put together for you. It's not MEANT to be a skiddie tool, though several people use it as such, but it's meant to make it easier to do the job of the penetration tester to ensure that companies are secure.

So I am glad to find a new starting community and definitely will decide to stay here if the content on the forum keeps of at least reasonable quality for both beginners and more advanced hackers. I am honestly getting kind of tired of those forums with a lot of skiddies that just want to learn how to break in to a persons mail account or how to launch a DDoS attack. Personally I believe that "I will hold your hand" tutorials do not help people learn anything. They need to understand why it works like it works and that is something you learn from reading the right books mostly. True there are some good tutorials out there (as some on Nmap) but those I like to call articles. |

RE: Why to use BackTrack.
Precisely correct. I'm wanting this forum to be as professional as possible. We'll have to; however, understand that not everyone is a professional at computers or hacking, nor the internet or forums. A lot of people we'll see here are going to be newbies to intermediate computer users, a few professional IT's I think. Our moderators are told and expected to moderate the forum well to ensure that spam and malicious things stay out of the site.

Well I do not claim I got all the knowledge in store but I am for one willing to learn about something I do not know about. That is also what I expect of people I help when they have problems. I could spoon feed a person but the next time they will expect you to do the same again. Plus it results in them not even understanding what they are exactly doing. |

RE: Why to use BackTrack.
How well do you know Backtrack? If you like, if you are a pro at using backtrack, I can start a new forum much like the HJT training classroom and you can start 1 on 1 classes with people taking them from the basics to the pros. You can call it "spoon feeding" if you like, but you don't have to do it that way. You can give homework, reading material, but if you're going to be a teacher you're obviously expected to teach. Let me know what you think.

Let me know what you think. I just posted something similar to what you are asking in a different topic. But I also got a job and that goes first and next to that I got my girlfriend. But if I can get her so crazy to let me write something from time to time I might consider writing some study material. But I will contact you about that trough PM then later. Just hope then if I do that it will stay on this site. But I doubt that however.
